Blood Bank operations contribute to maternal deaths reduction in Cape Coast

On 15 June 2021, a day after World Blood Donor Day, a blood bank was commissioned for the Obstetrics and Gynaecology department of the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital by the MTN Ghana Foundation. The Blood Bank and Donation Unit operation has significantly helped reduce maternal deaths due to blood loss. This was stated by the acting Chief Executive Officer of the hospital, Dr Eric Kofi Ngyedu, on 30 May 2022.

In February 2020, the MTN Ghana Foundation cut sod for constructing a Hospital Blood Bank for the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital. This was completed and handed over in June 2021, and the result of this gesture by the foundation is what was projected.

MTN Ghana Foundation is a foundation established to drive all MTN’s CSR initiatives in the country. The Foundation has three focus areas – Health, Education and Economic Empowerment. They also instituted the annual blood donation exercise, dubbed the “Save a Life” campaign, in 2011 to support the restocking of blood at select blood banks. Read More >>>
