A massive turnup as students of Accra Academy Senior High School have shown strong interest in this year’s blood donation exercise.
271 units of blood were donated in this noble mission to touch thousands of human lives through caregiving and raise awareness about the imperative need for voluntary blood donation in our society.
Many of the donors were 1st year students who just attained 17 years of age, donating for the first time. Hence all effort was made to keep them in their comfort zones.
The exercise which happened on Wednesday 23rd July,2025 at the forecourt of the school was organised by the National Blood Service(NBS) in collaboration with ‘Melcom Care Foundation’.
According to the Head of Donor Recruitment, Mr. David .Ahiadzro who visited the blood donation center at the school said, students came out in their massive numbers to donate due to the timely education and awareness of the importance of blood donation and its components in saving lives.
“A systematic process was set up by a team of professionals from the National Blood Service (NBS) and staff members of Melcom Group of Company, which made the entire process of blood donation seem smooth and hassle free for the student donors”, he noted.
Mr. Ahiadzro explained that, donors were also motivated and encouraged their mates who were hesitant of donating blood and helped them overcome their fear of blood donation.
The NBS team went about the exercise with seamless coordination and execution, ensuring that every student was at their best of health before, during and after the blood donation and ensuring that the event ended successfully with each donor feeling proud of their noble act.
At the end, the donors were filled with a sense of satisfaction as they realised that they made such a difference, and had made an impact on the society.
Blood collection was also organised in Ashiaman, Agonna and Gomoa Dewurampong Senior High schools concurrently with support from the “Melcom Care Foundation”.
