A total of 2,952 units of blood were collected to help save lives at the end of a nationwide blood donation drive organized by the Melcom Care Foundation (MCF) in collaboration with the National Blood Service.
The three-day blood donation drive took place at different regional branch premises of Melcom shopping centers, malls and four selected Senior High Schools as part of MCF’s annual social responsibility activities from July, 23rd, 24th and 26th, 2025.
Accra Academy, Ashiaman, Senya and Gomoa- Dewurampong were the second cycle schools that participated in the exercise.
The employees, families, customers and the public got the opportunity to participate in the initiative, which was aimed at addressing the need for blood and to also inspire voluntary blood donations, which are essential for a sustainable blood supply
The Assistant Shop manager of Melcom Plus Kaneshie, Madam. Bernadette Quartey said, the company remains at the lead in observing the call to donate blood to save lives.
“Our responsibility is not only to offer suitable shopping centers and malls but also to uplift the people we serve. Donating blood is a direct way to save lives,” Madam Bernadette stated.
“One unit of donated blood can possibly save up to three lives therefore, I am appreciative to our employees for heeding the call to save a life,” she said.
The Deputy Chief Donor Recruitment Officer at the National Blood Service who coordinated the exercise, Mrs. Sophia Blankson, commended the employees, schools, customers and the general public for turning up in large numbers for the drive.
She further emphasized the importance of safe blood saying “Safe blood donors are the foundation of a safe and suitable supply of blood
‘Hopefully this great initiative will help not only to increase blood supply for all health facilities, (both public and private) but also to reinforce community relationship’, she noted.
