National Blood Service support healthcare in Northern Ghana

March 19, 2025

The National Blood Service (NBS) has donated a state-of-the-art centrifuge to the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), marking a significant advancement in healthcare for Northern Ghana.

During the handover ceremony, Dr. Shirley Owusu-Ofori, CEO of the NBS, emphasized the centrifuge’s importance for blood processing and component separation, calling it a crucial milestone for the region’s medical landscape. “The installation of the centrifuge will represent a major leap forward in our blood processing capabilities,” Dr. Owusu-Ofori stated.

NBS Board Chairman Robert Vasco Sarpong provided background on the donation, explaining that the NBS recognized the hospital’s need for such equipment and how its absence was impacting healthcare delivery. He acknowledged the high cost of acquiring the centrifuge and commended Dr. Owusu-Ofori’s efforts in securing it for TTH.

Dr. Atiku Adam, CEO of Tamale Teaching Hospital, expressed deep gratitude on behalf of the hospital’s staff and the people of Northern Ghana. He assured the NBS that TTH would maintain the equipment properly to maximize its impact. This donation represents a notable advancement in blood processing capabilities for TTH, enhancing its capacity to provide quality patient care in the region.
