The National Blood Service (NBS) has presented 1,000 pieces of branded children’s clothing to the Child Health Department of the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra.
The donation, made on Tuesday 16th June 2026, formed part of activities marking this year’s World Blood Donor Day celebrations.
Speaking at the presentation, the Chief Executive of the National Blood Service, Dr. Shirley Owusu-Ofori, said the gesture reflects the Service’s commitment to patient welfare beyond its core mandate of ensuring a safe and reliable blood supply.
“These children are sick and require clinical care, but they will also be comfortable with the warmth of the clothing we have presented,” she said.
Dr. Owusu-Ofori explained that the clothing was received from the Global Blood Fund as part of broader support for healthcare institutions, covering both blood donation logistics and patient welfare.
She noted that the donation reflects NBS’s wider vision of strengthening healthcare delivery through both clinical and humanitarian support, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, adding that the Service’s role extends beyond blood collection and transfusion to include direct support for patient comfort and recovery.
